For all those who have a soft spot for cinematic sounds, exotic vibes and hypnotic rhythms, Biodramina Mood is back, courtesy of Subterfuge Records. After a period of silence, the group brings us a single called ‘A buenas horas Twist’, which serves as the perfect appetiser for the album they will release in March.
This track has an unmistakably retro feel, as if it were the name of a film from the 1960s, in which, after the credits designed by Saul Bass appear, Jack Lemmon or Shirley MacLaine appear on screen. It is a piece that Peter Sellers could also have been dancing to at Blake Edwards' ‘The Party’ party.
This is not just a nostalgic look back, it is a fresh and evocative proposal, a modern reinterpretation of what chamber music would be if the 1960s had been the peak of classicism.
The group draws on influences such as Combustible Edison, Henry Mancini, Duke Ellington, Martin Denny, Jon Brion... and presents its music with a peculiar orchestration consisting of marimba, cello, tuba, guitar and drums. The rich timbre of this instrumentation gives it a unique sound with an unmistakable stamp.
