BIG BLOOD:

Big Blood from South Portland, Maine, delivers a distinctive sound where raw folk meets experimental rock, blending haunting melodies with a dynamic intensity that captivates and surprises. Big Blood was formed in 2006 by Colleen Kinsella and Caleb Mulkerin after the dissolution of their previous band, Cerberus Shoal. Originally a collaborative project between the two, the group later grew into a family affair with the inclusion of their daughter, Quinnisa. Colleen and Caleb’s ability to create deeply atmospheric soundscapes, combining traditional instruments with unconventional sounds, has earned Big Blood a devoted following. Quinnisa, who began recording at age five, and started performing live at ten, uses her powerful voice and ability to improvise lyrics to help bring their music to life. Each member brings a unique element to the band—Colleen’s resonant, layered vocals, and multi-instrumental talents, Caleb’s intricate guitar/bass work and production skills, and Quinn’s developing skills as both a musician and songwriter contribute to the group’s evolving and richly textured sound. Quinnisa’s boyfriend Aiden Arel joined the band in 2023, with his multi instrumental prowess and charming smile Aiden helped complete this incarnation of Big Blood.

Blending psychedelic folk, experimental rock, and an array of other influences, Big Blood’s music is both diverse and deeply personal. Known for their DIY ethos, they have self-released most of their recordings themselves, often with handmade packaging, while also collaborating with independent labels like Ba Da Bing Records and Feeding Tube. Over the years, the band has built a dedicated international cult following and become a mainstay in New England’s underground music scene.

 Big Blood continues to explore new sonic territories, each album reflecting their commitment to spontaneity and emotional honesty. Despite their constant evolution, they remain grounded in the deep, familial connection that makes their music so compelling.

As they embark on this tour, Big Blood brings with them the raw energy and inventive spirit that has defined their journey from the start, drawing listeners into their world of sound and emotion. Their performances offer a glimpse into an evolving soundscape, where each show is a distinct exploration of their ever-changing creative process.
