uana de Castilla. Un personaje que, de haberlo conocido Shakespeare, sería sin duda la protagonista de una de sus grandes tragedias. La tragedia de una mujer, hija de los Reyes Católicos, que se ve desde muy niña arrastrada vertiginosamente por todas las turbulencias, las intrigas políticas y religiosas de su época. Una mujer, una reina destrozada emocionalmente por sus grandes contradicciones, por su rebeldía, por su fuerte personalidad y por un enorme desequilibrio afectivo que cristaliza en ese paseo por el amor y la muerte que es su matrimonio con Felipe de Habsburgo. Ya desde su nacimiento fue recibida por los gritos de agonía de más de cien herejes que a esa misma hora morían quemados al pie de la ventana tras la cual la reina Isabel la Católica yacía atravesada por los dolores del parto. El perfume sangriento de la Inquisición dándole la bienvenida al mundo. La leyenda popular y el morbo enfermizo, acumulado en este país durante años alrededor de su personaje, ha sido inspiración para obras de teatro, series de televisión y películas. Pero yo siem¬pre eché en falta un tratamiento más profundo y más justo con tan extraordinario personaje, y cuando Ernesto Caballero me mandó este texto vi desde su primera lectura que era el espectáculo teatral que había que hacer. Así nació este proyecto, Reina Juana. Ernesto Caballero plantea desde reflexiones de una gran contemporaneidad todas las grandes preguntas de una época marcada por la intolerancia religiosa, la corrupción política y la ambición desmesurada de una monarquía absolutista cuyos ecos, por desgracia, aún resuenan en nuestros días. Nada hubiera sido posible sin la pasión de dos productores de raza, Juanjo Seoane y Alejandro Colubi, que han puesto su gran experiencia al servicio de este proyecto. Y desde luego sin una grande de la escena española, Concha Velasco, que es la razón última de este entusiasmo que nos invade a todos. Es ella con su talento, su humanidad, su complicidad con el mejor teatro, su inteligencia y su total entrega desde el primer día, la luz que ilumina las partes más oscuras y dolorosas de un personaje que parece hecho a su medida. Gracias Concha por haberte embarcado en este viaje tan apasionante y tan luminoso como la propia vida.
