Escrita en 1623, es una de las tragedias referenciales de nuestro teatro del Siglo de Oro. Estamos ante una pieza contundente que narra unos supuestos sucesos históricos acaecidos en Sevilla. Nos situamos en el siglo XIII. El rey Sancho el Bravo llega por primera vez a esta ciudad y queda prendado por la belleza de Estrella Tavera. La desea, y todo su fin es conseguirla cuanto antes, pasando por encima de quien se tercie.
