A Night in the Round

An evening of four, very different, short one-act plays, to be performed ‘in-the-round’ (the audience sit on all four sides of the acting area, with the performers in the centre). Don’t miss this fun-filled, intimate, unique night out at the theatre.

The plays have been selected to create a theatrical experience to entertain, stimulate and intrigue any audience. 

‘What Theatre Really Is’, by James Saunders, starts off as an attempted simple explanation of what theatre is, but as different characters express their opinions, rapidly moves to disagreement, argument, and almost chaos, bringing plenty of laughs along the way.

‘Have You Met Our Rabbit’, by Michael Stevens, is a comedy about communication (or a lack of it). When an English university student goes to stay with his foreign friend, he finds that only the friend’s mother is at home, and she doesn’t speak a word of English. What ensues is a hilarious examination of human behaviour and relationships. Anyone who moved to Spain without first learning the language will relate to this play.

‘Dog Accident’, by James Saunders, is a style play that explores the genre of realism and is full of subtext. When two colleagues witness an accident, their discussion at first seems quite innocuous. However, as it develops it becomes a much more intriguing. Why are their attitudes so different? What previous experiences have shaped their current attitudes?

‘Politics and Terror’, by Willy Russell, in stark contrast to ‘Dog Accident’ here the actors are adults playing children. The ‘terror’ looks at how creative a child can be, and just how far they will go to get what they want.
