Every musical starts with something: a character, a story, a song, a question, an image — or simply the feeling that this could be a musical.
Concept to Composition is a hands on, creative workshop with performer and composer Matt Harvey (as performer : Jesus Christ Superstar, Just for One Day; as writer and composer Unbound, Now or Never, Whatever Happens Next, Musical Theatre House Party) designed to help writers, composers and theatre-makers take an idea from its earliest spark towards a fully formed musical.
Drawing on his experience as both a professional performer and musical theatre writer, Matt will guide you through the process of developing an idea for the stage — from finding the heart of your story and creating compelling characters, through to structure, lyrics, melody, musical storytelling and the relationship between words and music.
This isn’t about having all the answers before you begin. It’s about discovering what your musical wants to become.
No previous musical-writing experience is required but bring your ideas!
